Financial Aid for Undergraduate International Students from Universities in Texas

Financial aid for undergraduate international students may be available from various universities in the state. However, not all universities offer the same kind of financial aid. The lists below indicate which schools in the state-and in all states across the country--offer aid (including grants, loans, and jobs) of at least 20% of the cost of attendance to the largest numbers of international students. If a school does not appear in the list, it probably does not offer much financial aid for international students. Athletic scholarships awarded to international students are not included.

International students planning to apply to an undergraduate program at a US university or college should contact the schools that interest them. Many schools provide financial aid information for international students on their websites; however, speaking directly with someone at the relevant program department(s) and the institution's Financial Aid Office can help you get all the information you need as clearly as possible. You won't know what's available until you ask.

One way that some universities and colleges in the US encourage international students to enrol is by offering a number of Non-Resident Tuition Waivers in an international student pool. The waivers typically cover the cost of the out-of-state portion of tuition; the student must still pay the in-state portion of tuition.

Different types of tuition waivers may be offered depending upon the institution. These include:

- Merit-based tuition waivers: based on GPA and typically not awarded until after two semesters of study.
- Need-based tuition waivers: based on need and often awarded upon admission to the program.
- Recruitment-based tuition waivers: based on program of study with tuition waivers segmented into either or both technical tuition waivers (for those undergraduate international students pursing degrees in science and engineering fields) and non-technical tuition waivers (encompassing all fields of degree study).
